Today is October 9th – which happens to be John Lennon’s birthday. He would have been 78 years old today. He had a remarkable impact on music, and in spite of his personal demons, also impacted the social consciousness of a couple of generations. I don’t try to fool myself into thinking that he was more than a man – in fact, I think he was a tormented man, with many issues to try to overcome. Not so different than the rest of us, really – maybe different demons. I appreciated his music. I am a fan. Although I did not agree with all of his politics or social commentary, I still appreciate him as an artist. He made statements and observations that, in some cases, had great relevance. One such quote that I’ve been using in my recent wedding ceremonies is something like: “John Lennon once said, “a dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together, THAT is reality.” I like the positivity of that quote and have added it to several of my ceremonies.
